Extras:

1. Roots of Wolverine an Conversation with Stan Lee and Len Wein: To me a Comical and X-Men fan this one 16 tiny short is worth the remove stamp alone. Stan Lee and Len Wein talking about the birth of X-Men and Wolverine and a lot of slight know background in the whole genre. Your player will say 2 chapters but there is only one.

2.Wolverine Unleashed: The Complete Origins well worth it this has a lot of on status interview like planning and setup and leisurely the scenes footage.

3.Deleted and alternate scenes: You can play all or each individually and with or without commentary by director Gavin Hood. It’s worth a survey, fair trace that there are only four of these a. Young Storm, b. Victor at the boxing ring, c. Alternate Memory Erase and d. Japanese Bar scene.

4. Anti-Smoking PSA, Ok, what the heck is this? My curiosity got the best of me and I fair had to click on this minute gem! It’s honest a 30 second bubble blowing short against smoking. Everyone is going around blowing bubbles and you can notice where the bubbles go that’s were smoke would probably go too.

The Digital Copy

I effect the Digital Copy disk in my recent 13-inch 2.13GHz MacBook running Snow Leopard. And unprejudiced like the directions say double-click on the transfer to iTunes. iTunes 9 boots. I’m anticipating something and… nothing great happens. I peruse around for more instructions and click on movies and nothing. I can’t procure the disk to copy download or play. Ok so I consider it must be something to do with Snow Leopard. So I rob the Digital Copy disk over to my 24inch iMac running expedient faded salubrious Leopard 10.5.8 and same thing! I really don’t peep how to continue.

So I try calling Apple Technical encourage maybe they have some tips and they are telling me it should ask for a serial number correct away but it never does that I can drawl.

Then I contacted Fox Digital Transfer tech wait on at foxdigitalcopy@orderassistance.com as ask for assistance.

Then I go to the relieve web page for Mac users at [...] and glean out I needed to explore for the DVD icon on the left side of the iTunes window under Devices then acquire then it you enter the code inside the DVD case on the Digital Transfer disk instructions and click on Redeem. Guess I’m unprejudiced an mature and out of touch but once I knew where to view it was so determined!

After that the transfer inaugurate and only took about 5 minutes and it was ready to play. The image looks fair Ok on my 24inch iMac but I’m obvious will gape worthy better on a iPod Touch and it does peek better on the 13inch MacBook. When I accept a iPod Touch or iPhone I will post an update.

I also have a Blackberry Storm and hope to win it up and running with the movie but no luck so far.

So then I downloaded it to my 13inch MacBook with Snow Leopard and all went well now that I knew where to peep. When you play it first time it asks for authorization from iTunes then tells you how many computers you have left you can download it to. You pick up up to 5 different ones.

The Movie Review:

Wolverine (Logan) is without doubt my common X-Men character. And so it was with tremendous anticipation I started watching X-Men Origins Wolverine.

Warning spoilers ahead

And now the movie, I fancy the initiate the childhood even if a slight cheesy it fills things in. And then we have the close motion battle scenes as they fight wars through time which are fair expressionless unbelievable with each scene stopped at a perfect visual moment.

The visuals throughout the movie are splendid and a lot of work must have gone into being on station.

However with that said it’s a shame some of the lame lines and terrible script writing come by in the procedure of how awesome Hugh is at playing Wolverine! The man unbiased can do no heinous! He’s awesome and if you have already seen the other X-Men movies you know what I mean if not you are in for a treat.

Most of the other main cast members do a colossal job as well: Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Kitsch all do a sizable job with what they have to work with and especially Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth who is impartial awesome! Will.i.am seems a diminutive novel to acting but I deem he may accept better and better. The staunch pickle for me is some of the side bit actors are so horrifically poor they almost sound like they are unprejudiced reading their lines.

But now we score into a confusing tale line and fair when the interaction between Hugh and Lynn Collins heats up we destroy her off. What the heck? She’s wonderful for the short time her unusual character is in the movie but near ON! Acquire in the characters give them some depth. It’s almost like Lynn is impartial there long enough so we become attached before she dies.

After Lynn’s brief allotment we head into the making of the indestructible Wolverine and the visuals are one again awesome!

The action however is sometimes procedure over the top like the helicopter blade cutting scene with parts at time speeding up. But at times some silly items such as Wolverine learning to control his blades and cutting the primitive farmers sink work well. But parts like the fight with the beefy guy in the ring are fair too noteworthy and bring the movie down impartial as it seems to be on its feet.

Some parts in the middle of the movie almost feels like it’s either trying to become a B movie it certainly doesn’t occupy its self seriously.

But then Wolverine cuts loose the prisoner mutants loose and the final battle begins which is actually attractive cold and more then makes up for the middle.

Plus a surprise guest at the very kill.

Be definite to sustain the movie going at the extinguish as there is a second comic ending in the middle of the credits gripping Col. Stryker.

World Premiere Event:

Last but not least I had the extraordinary experience of attending and photographing the cast at the red carpet event X-Men Origins World Premiere. If I could rate this separately it would have been 5 stars!

Seeing Hugh Jackman prance up to the event on the same Harley he rode in the movie was well worth the hours of waiting in and of itself. I could have reached out and touched him as he rode by.

All the main stars were there including: Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Liev Schreiber, Lynn Collins and Will.i.am. Even director Gavin Hood attended.

And speaking of sexy Lynn Collins, she is out of this world looking even prettier in the flesh then on the DVD. Too poor she had so exiguous time in the movie.

In fact trying to record what the Premiere was like I glean words impartial can’t do it justice so click on the link below to stare photos I took during the X-Men Wolverine Premiere at [...]

In the coming days I will be adding more as I ogle through all the snort over commentaries.

Verdict:

In the kill I am delighted I bought the movie it does gain in some missing areas of Logan’s life and Wolverine’s creation and if you are a die hard fan of the series its well worth the heed.

As a female fan I thoroughly be pleased the actions parts. You could remark that’s where the money, and attention by the fragment of writers, director and producers (yes you, Jackman) went. I’ll definitely net the DVD as many female fans are–for the Watch Candy! I esteem that Jackman is not so rotund of himself and that his first solo X-men flick–he spread the hottness around. I don’t know if he did this because, he feels more comfortable in a group ensemble; or because he impartial rather give another actor a hand up. Nevertheless, in this movie you accumulate to inspect more characters and a lot, A LOT of Glowing Men.

LADIES Lift NOTE:

Ryan Reynolds stands out as Deadpool–so grand that a spin-off is in the works. His typical smarta$$ mouth comedy makes his one liners really zing. And the man can swing a pair of swords, and survey bada$$ doing so.

Also, a lesser known Korean American actor/model Daniel Henney as weapons expert Agent Zero, makes his first appearance on a US movie. He’s mostly known for Korean TV, Cinema and modeling. Yet in this flick, his supermodel looks work in his favor as he brings an icey captivating demeanor that design him one to choose brand of–and makes fans like me pray for a Agent Zero spin-off. His action sequence at the beginning of the film left me wanting more.

Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch as Gambit was a titanic crowd pleaser in Amusing Con, and he delivers on the stout shroud. This one might also have a spin-off in the future. The ladies clear savor him and the guys seemed delighted with his notify of the gambler as well.

Howevery I agree completely with other reviews. The location was ancient, and they didn’t account for worthy about Logan’s past (which was the purpose of the movie) . We kind gain a scrutinize and posthaste urge through and the rest is all Bellow! BAM! POW! All in all the movie was worth my money. I got a mountainous night out with friends and a lot to drool over for. Thank you Jackman for all that nakedness! *shivers* I am totally tranquil hoping this movie does well on DVD release. Cuz Jackman’s such a grand guy that he deserves it.

I hope in the upcoming spin-offs they do focus a bit more on the place. Unbiased a wee more than they did on this one. Cuz altho they might have felt the male silly geeks would adore all the Exclaim! BAM! POW! actions stuff, and female geeks would cherish all the nakedness and sexy…Sexy Men, we’d also would like a better myth line to bring it all together. I assume that’s what made the X-men flicks work and do so well, so I hope they go serve to that contrivance in future installments.

That’s what has-been vaudevillian Laurence Olivier says to daughter Joan Plowright when commenting on his frustrating, failed life in “The Entertainer”, and when he says it and you peruse, by golly if he doesn’t see tiresome indeed.

This movie makes me glum and I really don’t like to examine it, but that cannot gain me articulate that it is one of Olivier’s greatest jobs. I contemplate fraction of the plot he can divulge this male menopause pathos derived from his bear life at the time, the method Gable’s fill tragedies sing “Homecoming”. At this point, yes, Olivier had won an Oscar and gained a knighthood, but his personal life was a shambles. He was married to Vivien Leigh who was sickly and suffering from mental illness. He once described it to Lauren Bacall in this fashion: The first ten years were heaven, the last hell. The strain was beginning to expose in Larry, and that’s what is communicated in his depiction of Archie Rice, the entertainer who hasn’t got any joy in his believe life. Archie’s made a mess of things: he’s a bankrupt, he’s got a wife who’s tiring, and stupid, he’s got to play in these tawdry seaside resorts. He manages to seduce a naive young girl, and is hoping perhaps to shake off both the wife and this poor luck that’s been plaguing him, but everything always falls through. Life can’t aid being lousy, I guess is the message of “The Entertainer”, and does one heck of a job showing us the seamy side of a two-bit talent’s life.

Of course, the astronomical irony is that in actual life, Olivier began an affair with the actress playing his daughter, Joan Plowright. What might have been honest another example of life imitating art–of Olivier playing out the seducer element of “The Entertainer”–actually worked out to his aid. The result was the raze of his scandalous marriage to Vivien Leigh and a recent marriage, now to the years-younger Plowright, with whom he had two children (something that never happened with Leigh), and a breath of novel air into his performing life as he staged more Shakepeare et al. with this modern Lady Olivier. All of that is why I can stomach watching “The Entertainer”, you know: Thank God Olivier had better things ahead of him after all than bad Archie Rice.

So, if you can bask in verismo in film and would like to observe the English-speaking world’s greatest actor play against type, bewitch a seat at “The Entertainer” and count your blessings that you can leave your woes AT the theatre when you leave.

“Hmm — a movie called *The Entertainer*, with a smiling Laurence Olivier on the DVD’s cloak. He looks like he wants to give us all a expansive hug. There are even chorus girls dancing unhurried him. This looks like fun!” — Nope: it’s one of the most depressing movies ever made. Well, there IS some fun to be had by watching Olivier totally INHABIT the character of Archie Rice: truly a case of the 20th Century’s greatest actor playing one of the best roles in 20th Century drama. Let it be said at once that this is Olivier’s best film performance, and never mind all those Shakespeares. (He notion so too, calling the role of Archie Rice his all-time well-liked and the one he most closely related to.) The movie is based on the unique stage play, written by the modern Inflamed Young Man, the mountainous playwright John Osborne. The superficial thing to say about *The Entertainer* is that Archie Rice symbolizes England itself after World War II. This chronicle encapsulates like no other (including Osborne’s earlier *Look Relieve in Anger*) that “British post-War malaise” you’ve heard so remarkable about. Noteworthy like England in 1960, the man harbors illusions of grandeur based on a speciously “ravishing” past. And like the country, Archie is in reality outdated, irrelevant, dingy, poor, past his prime, desperate, pathetic — in a phrase, he’s very grand like the sleazy seaside resort town wherein he plies his trade as a vaudevillian. And you can contrivance an easy parallel between Archie’s attempts to withhold his bankrupt indicate afloat with England’s senseless, imperial involvement in Palestine at this time. (Or was it Suez? — it’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie. In any case, it was someplace where they no longer belonged.) But these exercises are for film theory class. The dependable stuff is in the creation of the wonderfully deplorable character. Archie is a Actual character with depth, novel mannerisms and diction, and plausible motives. He has a history. He’s believable. But as brilliantly as the character is written, it’s Olivier who brings him to searing life. When Olivier delivers Archie’s “goodnight” address at the waste of the film, you know you’re watching a high moment in cinema. Only a big actor with decades of experience could pronounce these lines with such withering weight. Archie’s divers failures are sinful, absurd, and total — but Olivier is defiant. We catch ourselves grudgingly admiring this rat-like defiance, because we like fighters. And huge actors.

It’s not surprising that this controversial movie isn’t that famed, but after the tragedy of September 11, 2001, watching this movie is even more essential. The movie begins with a devastating Soviet tank attack on a mild village in Afghanistan, during which a rebel prisoner is shown being hasten over by one of the T-62 tanks (one of the most grusome scenes in the history of cinema!) . After “mopping up” the pitiful resistance, one of the Soviet T-62 tanks becomes separated from the rest and in no time at all is lost in the brutal desert, where Afghani rebels led by Taj (Steven Bauer, in an fantastic performance) stalk the tank with the goal of destroying “the beast”.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Beast! Click Here

The commander of the lost T-62 is Daskal (George Dzundza), a tyrant who’s so psychotic he has one of his believe tank crewman machine gunned for being “a traitor” (which he wasn’t of course) .

The tank driver, Koverchenko (Jason Patric) can’t stand Daskal’s madness any longer, and when his insubordination to Daskal goes too far he is tied up and left to die alone in the desert. The Afghani rebels rep Koverchenko and prepare to raze him, but he begs for mercy and his life is spared by Taj. Taj gives him the option of joining the rebels in their certain hunt of “the beast”, and Koverchenko readily accepts. Taj and Koverchenko learn to trust one another as they halt in on the tank (which is swiftly running out of fuel) for the extinguish, leading to an explosive confrontation.

Despite the fact that Americans play Soviet tank crewmen and utter English, I found this movie very thought-provoking and exciting from beginning to demolish. The casting couldn’t have been better and the performances are outstanding, as is the chilling atmospheric music by Effect Isham. The cinematography is simply radiant, and the battle scenes are very graphic and intense. It’s too unpleasant that the dvd is full-screen only and contains hardly any special features, because a substantial film like this certainly deserves a special edition dvd. Peaceful, it’s at least very inexpensive, and this is a movie that no war movie fan should be without!

“When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,

and the women reach out to cleave up your remains,

just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,

and go to your God like a soldier.” -Rudyard Kipling

The political climate at the time of this film’s release in 1988 made it impossible for it to earn the distribution it deserved; the movie itself, taking space during the first fleshy year of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, centers around a Soviet tank crew who are commanded by a unhappy officer who is a extinct of the Frail School…and the Extinct War (his details of his exploits as a child in Stalingrad against the Nazis are both chilling and exceptionally revealing) . He has no regard for the lives of the people in whose country his armies are “guests” (the government in Kabul at the time was well- supported by Moscow), and he has neither regard for anything he perceives as weakness among his contain troops, nor time to listen to anyone who would interfere with his exclaim of them. This leads to the action that ultimately adds the twist of “Badal” (Islamic term for “revenge”) as the tankers become lost in a box canyon and attempt to elude Mujahideen (Islamic freedom fighters) as they return to their column.
>
I know it’s an insignificant and meaningless consequence to the actions of September 11, 2001 here in the United States…but I bear this movie should be reassessed and far more appreciated. The decision to allow the Soviets to notify not in the musty thickly-accented English that can be expected from most intrigue movies, but instead with American dialects (any of these guys could have been extras in “A Bronx Anecdote”) was inspired at the time, and it very effectively humanized an enemy that we in America had been indoctrinated to bear were “an Irascible Empire”. And in truth, the first scene of the armored attack of an Afghan village graceful grand supports this categorization…but as the movie runs its course, you commence to wonder.
>
The Afghans, in contract, yell their native tongue (with subtitles) . This is an astounding feat, particularly pulled off by Steven Bauer (”Manolo”, from “Scarface”) as the young Khan who inherits his state after his elders are killed during Soviet interrogation. The Afghans religiously observe their obligation to extinguish the Soviets as divine will, and are thoroughly merciless in their attempts to do so. A group that originate the movie as oppressed but doughty freedom fighters slowly scream themselves to be exiguous short of brigands, literally (at least in the case of their women) thirsty for the blood of their invaders.
>
Of course, today things are different. Today we as Americans are only beginning to understand the apprehension that the conflict in Afghanistan was (and continues to be) . Today we as a country ask ourselves what we were thinking when we pledged our serve to the Mujahideen that eventually begat the Taliban in an attempt to thwart an “Unfriendly Empire” who, for some reason, wanted to control the most worthless patch of land on this planet.
>
Therefore, I say with gigantic conviction: Behold this movie…and when you win yourself wondering if it’s true to feel one device or the other for one side or the other, then you fetch yourself conception a minute more about what war really is.

After Buffy went off the air, and then Charmed, I despaired of finding a supernatural indicate with quality writing and spacious plots. My prayers were answered by the Scifi network with this awesome exhibit.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Dresden Files - The Complete First Season! Click Here

I was already a fan of the book series and this present does an helpful job of adapting the stories written by Jim Butcher. Like in Charmed, magic exists but regular people don’t know about it. Harry Dresden is the only Wizard P.I. in the phone book. Most deem he’s a crack pot, but some know he is their only hope. He works as a consultant to the police via Det. Murphy on those cases considered bizarre. Along the design there are werewolf serial killers, vampire club owners, and innocents that need to be protected.

The display doesn’t overdo the special effects, rather using them less frequently but with greater impact. Which is actually in keeping with the books. Harry is faithfully recreated and played by Paul Blackstone. And then there is Bob. The portrayal of Bob is one of those rare instances where a book character has been drastically changed, but in a proper device. In the books he is an incorporeal spirit residing in a skull. This is gorgeous in the books where a reader’s imagination is boosting the conception, but would not translate well to TV. Producers cleverly decided to effect him a human-looking ghost with a dry wit and quick dialog. They did it so well, Bob hasty became my current character!

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Dresden Files - The Complete First Season! Click Here

If you like fantasy or scifi shows, bag the Dresden Files. And when you can’t score enough of Harry, acquire the books.

Given the shakey open from having episodes juxtaposed in viewing order this season really took off with a bang! After watching impartial the first episode it intrigued me enough to want to go out and engage the whole series of books by Jim Butcher and I was not disappointed. Absolute page turners mixed with tremendous characters, sly wit, faulty sarcasm, astonishing magic, and of course — Bob! I really like how the TV expose transformed the simple talking skull into a viewable character, played by none other than the superbly casted, Terrance Mann. And of course Paul Blackthorne as Harry Dresden was a sparkling decision. He has managed to catch Harry’s self-depracating humor, sarcasm, and flair for drama and magic along with his vulnerable side and inevitable confrontation with the forces of inferior. If you appreciate the books you will savor the colossal adaptation they have done on bringing the world of the Dresden Files to life on hide. Given they showed the unique pilot out of order as Episode 8 and trimmed down to 40 minutes from the fresh 2 hours, I can’t wait to behold the bonus features on this disc! A wizard detective in novel day Chicago… what else could you ask for?

Nothing happened to Jack Kerouac. He died like the rest of us eventually will. Jack Kerouac was a regular human being. Now you’re problably saying “yea I already knew that, so what? “. But what you problably didn’t know is that Jack traditional literature to explain how lovely and horrible human beings can be. Kerouac was a man equally feminine as he was masculine (read Charter’s biography about his relationships with Ginzy, N.C., as well as the women of his life.) All of this is touched on in the video documentary, which thrives off the somber emotion, and that sort of “grey sky comtemplation” of things, which seems to pervade all of Jack’s work. The video moves through Jack’s life in a fairly straightforward manner. We eye him as a afraid french speaking Mass. adolescent, a cleft chinned Columbia undergraduate, a rucksack wanderer,a chanting buddhist,an peaceful catholic, who loved his mother and drank powerful too powerful Johnnie Walker. In “What happnened to Jack? ” we peek Jack as who he really was, a confused, tortured, disenfranchised, gratified, discouraged writer who was very wonderful at putting words together, which gave an unprejudiced gape of what was going on in his heart and his mind. There are many colossal moments in the video. Any beat “junkie” will fancy the footage of Jack and Allen coolin’ it arrive Columbia, smoking cigarettes and shootin’ pool. There’s a clip of Bird and Diz blowing hot jazz, the beats in S.F. at the debut of Ginzy’s “Howl”, Mike McClure, Jack, Snyder and Ferlinghetti at Great Sur recitin’ and writin’ collected synapses of the happenings there and around. There are countless anecdotes and picturs of all your “beat heroes”, which relate them as strikingly regular and very un-heroic. The video as a complete work is very delectable, but the tastiest bits advance when Jack reads “October in the Railroad Earth” to a montage of San Francisco images. When a debonair Jack reads “On the Road” to Steve Allen’s bluesy piano in perfect phrasing and time. And last but not least there is the droll and strangely serious Greg Corso explaining genious, fame, and why he thinks the “Beat Generation” was a phenomenon. Kerouac would problably want you to notice this video because it shows that he was not a fad, an icon, nor a saviour for a generation. He was simply a regular man trying to come by answers to very un-regular questions and he faded his writing talent to unravel those mysteries.

A near-perfect documentary on Kerouac, and the list of interviewees is…well, they are all here: Herbert Huncke,

Gregory Peck and Christopher Plummer give outstanding performances as Monsr. Hugh O’Flaherty(Peck) and SS Col. Herbert Kapler(Plummer) . The action and suspense of the movie keeps it going at a brisk toddle. The narrative follows Peck as a Vatican official trying to achieve Italian Jews and Allied escaped POW’s from the hands of the German SS. Plummers portrayal as Col. Kapler is both chilling and horrible, especially when he personally executes a Catholic priest who was caught helping the Resistance. Peck’s portrayal of Father O’Flaherty is very inspiring to peek. The intelligence and compassion of this man truly shows through and shows how powerful Father O’Flaherty deserved the awards and decorations he received from the Allies after the war. And the ending is very surprising as well! It is also a plus having the movie shot in Rome where the valid events took status. A truly classic movie. I highly recommend it.

This movie never gets enough credit! This is one of the best war time movies ever and with Mr. Peck’s passing this is a must peer for Peck fans who have not seen this movie. Gregory Peck and Christopher Plummer in one of his best roles play a cat and mouse game during WW2. The acting is incredible and there is a lot of suspense! A must perceive!

I do not capture another film whose opening and closing scenes are more effective than those in this incandescent portrayal of the 918th Bombardment group based in England which flew almost daily missions to Germany during World War II. The character of General Frank Savage (Gregory Peck) is reputedly based on Brigadier General Frank A. Armstrong, Jr. Sy Bartlett wrote the book and then the screenplay. Brilliantly directed by Henry King, we are introduced to a combination of combat fatigue and self-pity which results in the replacement of Colonel Keith Davenport (Gary Merrill) by his friend Savage who is told by his commanding officer, General Pritchard (Millard Mitchell), to shape up the 918th while avoiding Davenport’s problem: Becoming overly fervent emotionally in decisions to send B-17 crews on exceptionally unsafe missions, day after day after day. Savage immediately establishes his authority and almost immediately loses whatever goodwill he may have had. He applies and then maintains constant pressure on the crews to improve their performance in all areas of flight operations. Underachievers are reassigned to one B-17 renamed “The Leper Colony.” Morale deteriorates to such a point that those at headquarters become concerned. A formal investigation of the space is conducted. This is a principal moment for Savage. If he has “lost” his men, he cannot continue. In fact, he expects to be relieved and begins to pack his personal items. However, for reasons best revealed in the film, Savage remains in express. And then….

It would be a disservice to those who have not as yet seen this film to say any more about the location. Suffice to say that bright direction, huge acting by everyone keen (notably by Dean Jagger who received an Academy Award for best actor in a supporting role), edifying cinematography (Leon Shamroy), and haunting music (Alfred Newman) are seamlessly integrated in this analysis of effective leadership (especially decision-making) under wartime conditions. The film begins when Harry Stovall (Jagger) makes an especially distinguished buy in an antique store and then proceeds to what has by then become an abandoned air unfavorable. As we inaugurate to hear the bombers’ propellers philosophize as the engines shout to life, we are transported assist in time. Later, as the film ends, civilian Stovall climbs assist on his rented bike and departs what is again an abandoned air nasty. Radiant images throughout both sequences.

Peck included this among his well-liked films, while adding that he was especially proud of his performance as Frank Savage. When first released more than 50 years ago, it did not receive the recognition (great less the appreciation) it so obviously deserves. Whenever CEOs and other senior-level executives ask me to suggest war films which offer notable lessons about leadership and management, Twelve O’Clock High is first on the list, joined by (in alphabetical order) Speak Decision, The Dirty Dozen, The Enemy Below, Fort Apache, The Hunt for Red October, Paths of Glory, Pork Slit Hill, The Red Badge of Courage, They Were Expendable, and Zulu.

If there is one war memoir to support on your shelf besides “Saving Private Ryan,” this is it.

It starts with a lawyer visiting England as a tourist years after war’s raze. He discovers a cheap, ceramic antique which the store owner tells him is of tiny value. “Value? ” replies the lawyer. “Wrap it very carefully” he adds. So begins his mental travel support in time to the English airstrip where he served as adjutant of the 918th (nine, eighteenth) Bomb Group.

This “hard luck” group is taken over by a brigadier general from a colonel who has “over-identified” with his men, thus putting them before his missions. The general, Frank Savage, must restore group discipline and performance before the group disintegrates as an effective fighting unit.

General Savage puts mission before men and turns the disgruntled men who disfavor him into a cohesive unit. They turn into a group that will do anything to sustain from being left tedious, or letting down their novel leader. (Each announcement of a mission for the following day is characterized by the operations officer going to the mantel over the fireplace, in the Officers’ Club, and turning the head of a ceramic pirate face outward.)

But the tough general will not do the same mistake that the last group commander makes. He will always support the mission first, and will not over-identify with his men. He will not let the loss of his men affect him.

Or, will he?

This sad & white anecdote is exceptional and superbly acted. It shows the mental tug-of-war a leader must acquire in the decisions that will cost the lives of men he has arrive to savor and respect. It depicts how the ugliness of war brings out the best in ourselves, and creates fraternal bonds that last a lifetime.

This is not a gory narrative, but it is one that will leave you breathless. It may sadden you, but it will not disappoint you. It does not slay with everyone living, or gay.

War never does.

P.S. The “whole nine yards” refers to the length of ammunition in a box that was attached to each machine gun in the bomber. When the linked ammunition was stretched to its chubby length, it measured nine yards.

In “Forces of Nature,” Ben Affleck stars as Ben, a repressed, buttoned-up stuffed shirt writer who, through a series of natural and manmade mishaps, ends up spending the several days before his impending marriage in the company of a freespirited, totally spontaneous and liberated young woman named Sarah, played by Sandra Bullock.

For the stout majority of the film’s running time, the screenplay follows the conventions of the opposites-attract scenario almost slavishly. The script even provides Ben’s fiancee with an overly-convenient replacement in the manufacture of a now-hunky childhood friend she has not seen in years who rekindles sparks with her on the eve of the wedding.

Thus, with the troublesome fiance conveniently out of the contrivance, the stage is situation for the predictable lawful fancy romantic finale. But, damn, if the writers don’t pull the rug out from under us and crash the time-honored cliche. This is particularly surprising because, up to now, the film has exhibited no brand of iconoclasm in either its residence or character development. In fact, the screenplay is less a full-fledged sage than a series of photographic montage sequences strung lazily together as Ben and Sarah remove in one cutesy site and encounter after another. Thus, the unconventionality of the resolution comes as an even more exquisite surprise than it otherwise might.

Affleck and Bullock are very consuming as two young people who complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses and who learn to offer one another critical life lessons. “Forces of Nature” emerges as one of those rare films that is, perhaps, actually better in retrospect than in the watching.

That’s the point of this movie–2 people who shouldn’t be together, but who lisp each other something along the procedure while also learning a lot about themselves.

Why is it that every time Sandra Bullock goes beyond the cutesy “While You Were Sleeping” format (which I admit to loving), she cops it? She’s unbelievable as the likeable Sarah who doesn’t look unbiased how likeable she is, and learns to obtain herself during the stride. Ben Affleck is a stiff? He’s *supposed* to be, and that adds value to the film, especially his embarrassment at having to peel ‘Sarah’ off the floor of a K-Mart they’re sheltering in. And then there’s the striptease in the elated bar–gorgeous.

Obviously I was looking at it from a different angle, because I plan Bullock & Affleck had a lot of chemistry going on and played off each other nicely. Combine that with a titanic encourage cast, especially Steve Zahn as Affleck’s best friend, and Moira Tierney as his fiance, and you’ve got a substantial, fun flick. It deserves 5 stars for recognizing that there will always be temptation–how we chose to deal with it is the ultimate test of character.

Forbidden Planet is an fabulous movie and no Sci-Fi fan should be without it. The transfer on the 50th Anniversary and Ultimate Collector’s Editions is fabulous. I’ve never seen the film peer so shiny, crisp and vibrant. The included documentaries and bonus footage are very animated and not to be missed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Forbidden Planet! Click Here

A word of warning though, the Ultimate Collector’s Edition is a bit of a rip off. The included Robby the Robot toy was the main reason I bought this location and it’s powerful smaller (and less detailed) than the images lead you to occupy. I haven’t opened mine, but it looks like it’s not even articulated. Definitely not worth the extra money I had to pay. The lobby card reporductions are nice, as is the tin case, but unless you belief to expose these it’s hard to clarify the added cost.

Be radiant, skip the Ultimate Collector’s Edition and select the 50th Anniversary Edition. You’ll pick up objective the precise same transfer and bonus material without the cheap toy and lobby cards.

It’s silly, me being a fan of science fiction and movies in general, why it is that it took me so long to net around to watching Forbidden Planet (1956) . Portion of it is I feel as if I’ve already seen the film, as clips from it are usually always shown whenever someone does a documentary on science fiction in film, as it’s unbiased such an influential and improbable fraction of work. Now, I’ve heard that this movie is loosely based on Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest, but since I’ve never read it, I can’t comment on comparisons between the play and the film. The film stars Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen, and Robby the Robot (Yes, the robot gets a conceal credit. If you notice on the Internet Movie Database, you’ll procure it’s even listed as an actor) .

The sage is about a spacecraft sent to learn what exactly happened to a previous spacecraft and its’ crew, which had been deployed many years prior, and has since not been heard from in some time. This modern mission is under the verbalize of Commander John J. Adams (Nielsen), and soon salvage themselves on advance to the destination planet of the now lost ship. On their arrival, they net an ominous message, from the planet, issued by a member of the unusual crew, Dr. Edward Morbius (Pidgeon) . Despite his warnings, they land and are soon met by a robot named Robby, who escorts them to Morbius’ rather posh abode. Here we learn all the members of that fated crew have been killed off, except for Morbius and his daughter (whom Morbius had when he procreated with another member of the recent crew), Altaira (Francis), by some unseen, yet completely inferior, force, to which Morbius and his daughter seem immune. Not expecting to net any survivors, Commander Adams now has to change his plans to include trying to contact his superiors and receive further instructions on how to recede, despite Morbuis’ protests that they should leave as soon as possible, leaving him and his daughter unhurried so that he may continue his research. What is his research? Well, it seems that many hundreds of thousands of years ago, the planet was inhabited by a highly advanced hurry of being called the Krell, who mysteriously vanished seemingly overnight in comparison to their collective power, intelligence and abilities, and while their cities have long since gone, a big deal of their technology survived underneath the ground, and Morbius has managed to glean some idea of these beings, even being able to pry bits of information and such in the 20 unique years that he’s been here. This improbable discovery is certainly worth writing home about, and so Commander Adams begins having the men disassemble the ship to fabricate a design grand enough to send a message support to his superiors, and in the meantime, starts making time with Morbius’ daughter, who’s never seen a man outside of her father, and is uneducated in the ways of woo. Things seem to be progressing until an unseen tedious night attack on the ship damages some crucial elements needed for communication, so an electrified perimeter is location up to prevent the near of any more unannounced and unwelcome visitors. We soon catch out the fence works, as a grand beastie, normally invisible, now highlighted by the electrical unusual, tries to attack the ship, killing a few defenders. What exactly is the nature of this beast? Is it somehow connected to the Krell? Does Morbius know more than he’s letting on? Will any gain off this planet alive? What the heck were these Krell up to anyway?

Forbidden Planet is inspirational, in my idea, because it presents an well developed and understanding out epic above and beyond the usual `scary alien’ fare we saw in the early 50’s. Similar to The Day the Earth Stood Detached (1951), it brought a level of intelligence to the genre while managing to also entertain. Basically, whatever level you concept the film on, it will provide enjoyment. It also hallmarked the first film appearance of Robby the Robot, probably one of the most well-liked, recognizable, and enduring icons in science fiction film history. Also, it is essential to trace, this is the first film to exhaust an entirely electronically unruffled musical acquire. Stereotypical characterizations appear to obtain the various roles, but since the film was releases a great 14 years before I was even born, I can’t attend but wonder if the stereotypes started here, given the influence of the film. The production value overall is lavish and indicates slight expense was spared in bringing the fable to life. The special effects, even by today’s standards, gaze remarkably favorable, and the realism in the matte painting backgrounds is truly spectacular. The tour of the large underground Krell facility really stood out in my mind, properly highlighting the enormity and intricacies at the same time. Situation holes? Yeah, I noticed a few of them (like how’d Robby note up at the kill despite every circuit being blown? And that self-destruct mechanism at the destroy…that seemed a bit convenient and lacking good safeguards one would normally apply as to not accidentally cause it to go off), but these tend to pale in comparison to the overall film. As a whole, I judge anyone would be hard pressed not to retort this as one of the more influential films in the genre, and unbiased a lot of fun in general.

Warner Brother’s gets points from providing an apt widescreen print (the DVD is double sided, with fullscreen on the flipside), but loses some in their complete lack of special features other than an modern theatrical trailer. I score it exquisite shadowy that this film doesn’t rate the special features we so often ogle on fresh releases. Normally I’d be delighted with a qualified looking print, but surely sure films deserve some preferential treatment, and this, in my view, is one of them. Oh well…
