As I child I loved Davey and Goliath. I have to admit I aloof do at 52. This series teaches ample manners, kindness, telling the truth, how to treat others and be mindful of their feelings. Not to buy what isn’t yours, obedience to parents, how cheating is nasty. All the things that any god parent would want for themselves.

It doesn’t preach or talk about any certian churches. It is not talking about salvation and hell..nothing like that. It is produced by the Evangelical Lutheran Church but you hear nothing of that in the programs.
I highly recommend this to every parent.
A friend of mine gave me this collection to my four year veteran. I must admit that I was honest as alive to in watching these cartoons as my son, in that I grew up on “Davey and Goliath” and I hadn’t seen them in years (I don’t know why the networks don’t point to D&G on TV anymore.)

In any case, these cartoons are better than I remember. My four year faded loves the cartoons. They are exciting and they own righteous, wholesome, non-violent stories; which also touch upon Christian values such as forgiveness and telling the truth.
These cartoons were produced by the Lutheran Church, but they can accomidate any Protestant denomination, and even (I imagine) the Roman Catholics. My wife and I are Methodist, but the friend who gave me this collection is Catholic and he said that he bought a dwelling for his hold kids. I also grew up in a heavily Catholic neighborhood, and all my friends who were Catholic veteran to peruse D&G as well. It’s objective suited shapely fun for family members of all ages. It might also provide an oppurtunity to discuss religious and apt values with children at home or in Sunday school or CCD classes.
The only direct I have is as follows: I vaguely remember an Easter episode that is not included in this status. There is a Christmas, Current Year and Halloween episode, but no Easter special. Other than that: estimable memories that I can indulge in all over again with my cramped boy.

Count me among the “Roseanne” fans who had this DVD box situation pre-ordered until I heard about the edited assert. (According to some of the newspaper sources I’ve seen, these episodes are edited down even farther than the syndicated versions shown daily on TV.)

No arrangement, am I paying for edited relate, even though I judge “Roseanne” remains one of TV’s finest comedies, and one of the few that holds up under repeated viewings. Yes, the final season was dreadful–though the series finale episode was redeeming, if not spectacular–and there’s no denying the teach slipped from 1994 on (the gross “Gilligan’s Island” take-off and endless OJ references spring to mind), but, for me, “Roseanne” remains the ultimate “comfort food” TV, no weight-related pun intended. Even though I’ve seen the episodes so often I know many of the lines by heart, I detached laugh every time I notice an worn episode–which, thanks to plentiful reruns, is almost daily. There is no other exhibit, ever, that I can say that about.
And, as soon as they release unedited versions of the episodes on DVD, I’ll steal the complete station. Until then, I’ll be order with TV replays.
I was a mountainous fan of Roseanne when it aired on ABC. I rolled videotape from the initiate of the very first exhibit and still every episode from beginning to extinguish, minus commercials. I cannot understand charging upwards of thirty or forty dollars for what are NOT the complete episodes. If you perceive the DVDs of “M*A*S*H” and “Friends” and then peer the same shows on TBS and Hallmark, there’s quite a bit missing in those syndicated airings….some of it in the case of those “M*A*S*H” shows is quite noticeable. I agree with the folks who’ve gone ahead and recorded the syndicated shows from Lop at Nite or wherever. The fans of “Roseanne” deserve to have the DVDs of the complete unique airings of the reveal they made such a expansive hit, and without the annoying banners (very distracting on all those channels) and logos in the corner through the entire shows. I loved this demonstrate…but unless Carsey-Werner allows the re-release of the DVDs with truly complete episodes, I’ve got the shows complete and uncut on VHS tapes from beginning to kill. Anyone who thinks we’re whining about this and thinks we’re not lawful fans of the demonstrate is seeling themselves short. Amusing explain? Absolutely! A edifying deal on DVD in this version? Absolutely NOT!

Compare Prices on The Way of the Gun
First off if you’re considering buying this movie, definitely read at least three pages of the reviews here and more if possible. You’ll fetch a superb feel of the film that intention. Some folks derive this movie and some have no clue at all.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The Way of the Gun! Click Here
I’m unbiased going to add some comments that are lacking or that have been mis-stated.
First, only in the most loose definition of space twists or subplots, does this film have either. The sage is entirely linear, however you have to allotment together parts of the epic from sparse information. The legend begins at least 9 months prior to when the movie starts with the relationship and “deal” between the bagman and the surrogate mother (but you don’t know this until nearly the raze and it’s subtle enough to miss) . The film legend fully begins with the kidnapping. From that point on the various antagonists all leer opportunities and then angle to build it happen, except for the bagman who is protecting more than his employer.
Buy,Download, Or Stream The Way of the Gun! Click Here
Second, this is not about petty crooks and a botched job. This is a legend that involves professional criminals, professional mobsters and professional bodyguards, all of whom demonstrate clarity and intelligence beyond typical clever, one-liner, hollywood scripting.
The fact that police are only peripherally enthusiastic in any section of the film simply indicates that the dealings are far beyond your average cops and robbers style movie. This is a subculture that is not visible to normal society. The dialogue between Longbaugh and Sarno should illustrate this nicely. There is an plan between them that goes well beyond the simple words. This is equally moral for the relationship between Longbaugh and Parker, and Sarno and Abner - considerable is conveyed but small is said. This is a product of excellence in both acting and directing.
Lastly, the viewer is conflicted by the characters. Bodyguards should be beneficial guys, but are not sympathetic and are really fair mercenary. Chidduck is a poor person, but is the only person with a capable intent. Longbaugh, Parker and Sarno are criminals pure and simple, but can be sympathetic. All of these characters note that the line between good/evil, or honor/dishonor, or morality, etc is a very blurry line, and one that the characters gross over without regret. There are no absolutes.
This is apt script writing, because that does not happen by sheer favorable fortune.
One last plan. I feel that this film is better than the Usual Suspects. Simply because I deem the Contrivance of the Gun is more believable and more steeped in reality. The Usual Suspects to me was clever but ultimately a fantasy.
I have to say, walking into this film, I was expecting more, but that can only be because of the stunning credits of the writer/director. I mean, of course you’re going to have to seek information from double and triple crosses and enough area twists for ten movies when you go and search for a movie from the man who wrote The Usual Suspects. However, I have to say that even though I was at first dissapointed, that rapidly went out the window as I got into this terrific action/noir part by Christopher McQuarrie. His barage of bullets and profanity is some of the best stuff to near out of Hollywood in fresh years. The memoir, which I’m not going to spoil, is a work of criminal genius, and the acting is very safe (even Ryan Phillipe!) . This film crosses Pekinpah’s The Wild Bunch with Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid (through with gigantic nods are made) and a small bit of 40’s noir. The two antiheros are by far some of the best written characers in unusual months, and the two actors tacked on to play them are large. The supporting cast, which consists of James Caan, Taye Digs, Nicky Katt, and Juliette Lewis is masterfully crafted and very grievous key, which is notable when trying to get a film of this manner. There is not a single over the top performance, which gives a sort of cohesion among the ensemble. Benicio del Toro gives the films best, and sometimes most hilarious performance and has been given some of the best lines to work with. Phillipe actually does a valid job with his role, considering how few lines, besides the narration, that he has. His boyish charm works perfectly as a man who doesn’t give a damn and is extremely aged for his young appearance. To me, the only thing that was lacking in this film was the direction. There are too many stationary shots and a dinky bit too remarkable of the Pekinpah factor alive to in the direction. There are distinct scenes the cry of The Getaway and The Wild Bunch, along with a slight bit of Straw Dogs’ claustrophobia. The script is top notch and shows how trustworthy of a writer McQuarrie is, especially when you assume that he wrote the film in five days honest to net the corporate monkeys who wanted him to originate a crime film off of his wait on. This is the broad type of neo-noir action thriller that will stabalize the genre, but it is black to read interviews with McQuarrie in which he says this will be his last foray into the noir genre. A talent like his in a genre this hard to work correctly in is definitely few and far between, and this film will be studied, not for the direction, but for the always uncommon state that drove this film to the astronomical heights that it reached.

James Garner is good in this WWII thriller about Major Pike, a man who is drugged and kidnapped on a mission in Lisbon, which was a hub of intrigue during the war years. He is taken to an “American hospital” in Germany, where they articulate him he has amnesia, and has been hospitalized for years, in hopes of getting information on where and when the Allied invasion will capture set. With some hair dye and search for drops that blur his vision, and a newspaper that is dated “May 15, 1950″, Maj. The people who pretend to be “helping him” are Eva Marie Saint as his nurse, Anna, who has a numbered tattoo from Auschwitz, and will do anything not to be sent wait on there, and Rod Taylor as Major Gerber, the psychiatrist. Werner Peters is the faulty SS Agent Schack, whose only interest is in his gain promotion. The main thrust of the set is how Maj. Pike is to survive, and how he can retain the Nazis in the unlit about D-Day. There are a few twists to the fable, which for the most share holds water, though there is a minute discrepancy that to me is now determined, but I have seen this film countless times, and do not mediate I noticed it until the 3rd viewing.
The taut script is based on Roald Dahl’s “Beware of the Dog”, and the direction by George Seaton is nicely paced with many tense moments. Dimitri Tiomkin peaceful the soundtrack, and the unlit & white cinematography by Philip Lathrop was shot on spot in Portugal, Germany and Yosemite National Park. Total running time is 115 minutes.

Please note: The two stars above do not display my verdict on the film itself, but rather the strange transfer to DVD provided by the folks at Warner Home Video. For most of the running time this DVD looks unprejudiced exquisite, with a grand grey scale, handsome inequity and a enchanting image. Thankfully, white speckles are also quite absent, which is certainly not always the case when it comes to transfers of classic product from Warner.
But in almost all of the darker scenes throughout the film, the focus goes intention off, especially damaging in the true half of the cover. And when it comes to the final run sequence with Garner and Saint, this irritating double contour softness continues for half a reel or so, effectively ruining distinguished of the suspense.
If this pickle is a defect that exists on all surviving materials in the film vaults, then Warner should have had the decency to warn potential consumers with at least a sticker on the camouflage. But my guess is that this blurry jinx could have been corrected with some suitable quality attention before the discs were made and distributed. If Warner have the guts and will, they ought to consume this DVD pronto before its domestic street date on June 5, and fabricate a hopefully fresh transfer available as soon as possible.

Movie Title: The Wild One The Wild One is available for streaming or downloading. |
The “bikers” are like Broadway display extras. The dialogue is embarrassingly unauthentic. Have me, nobody outside of 42nd Street ever talked like that, daddy-o. The narrative plays out like some kind of “B” Western with a horse shortage. The “town” even looks like a Western state made over for what somebody in Hollywood belief might be a novel genre. There’s a café and a saloon rolled into one and a gal working there to procure the look, and a town posse and a jail and a sheriff (father of the gal) and some “decent citizens” turning into vigilantes, and instead of outlaws we have “hooligans.” The bikers do everything but tie their bikes up to the hitching post after roaring into town as though to rob over.
Okay, that’s one level. On another level this should be compared to Rebel without a Cause (1955) as a mid-century testament to teen angst. Or to Blackboard Jungle (1955) with the groundless juvenile delinquency and the phony slang. Marlon Brando as Johnny Strabler, whose claim to fame (aside from being the leader of the pack) is that he stole a second-place biker trophy, stars in a role that helped to inaugurate his career, not that his acting in this film was so colossal. (He was better in half a dozen other roles, for example., as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire 1951, or as Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront 1954) . What stands out here is his tough-guy vulnerability with women: the irresistible minute boy playing substantial. In one sense, this is, despite all the men running around and the macho delirium, something very finish to ladies night out. It’s a period part cherish fable, as exquisite as a teenager’s heart.
Mary Murphy, who in my concept really steals the expose, is at the very center of the drama and the psychology (not to mention that she looks downright yummy in her cashmere sweater and halt fitting skirt) . She plays Kathie Bleeker, a limited town girl whose heart yearns for something–anything–to smash the tedium. Along comes Johnny to sweep her off her feet. Only he isn’t determined how. Furthermore, she has a problem: although she falls in adore with the wild one, she sees honest through him. The scene that makes the movie begins with her jumping onto the abet of his motorcycle (of course) and, after roaring down the night highway, they retire to what looks like a park. She is about a breath away from what broken-down to be called swooning, but despite her fluttering heart, she sets him straight on who he is and how she feels and why. It’s like a woman talking to a wild boy. Then she falls to the ground and unprejudiced about caresses his motorcycle. It really hits home because she sees through all his pretense and exposes his vulnerability, but is vulnerable herself.

Lee Marvin plays the rival gang leader with a lot of showmanship and Robert Keith plays the ineffectual father. Unprejudiced about everybody else (including longtime LA sports anchor, Gil Stratton) amounts to an extra.
See this for a look at mid-century psychology as seen through the eyes of Hollywood’s seduction machine, and especially for Mary Murphy (running in those heels) who, for whatever reason, never became a star.
I gawk at this film today through very different eyes than when I first saw it as a high-schooler in ‘54.
Of course a lot of it seems hokey now, and with noble reason: the world is a far less innocent position than it was in those bucolic, Eisenhower, pre-R&R days.

I bought this the day it came out and watched a couple of episodes without incident and then began watching “The Bend In The River” when the problems started. At 1 hour 10 minutes and 43 seconds into the episode legal when Hannibal says “distinct” the dvd impartial stopped and went to the main menu. The rest of the episode was missing…it objective stopped so I tried it out on two other dvd players I have here and then figured I got a awful copy and went up to the store to exchange it. Well, once I got it home the second one did the same right thing, so I exchanged it a third time. The third copy actually plays through the episode but freezes for about 5 seconds in the trusty same set that the others were messed up. I haven’t even gotten to the other 5 DVD’s but my assumption from reading the reviews here is that they are going to have problems too.

I can’t understand how they release these seasons of the A-Team so painfully plain at Universal and can let something with this many errors near the stores. In the 10 months since the release of Season 2 could they not have had some type of quality control accomplish definite that the Season 3 DVD’s actually played?
This release has absolutely no bonus features unlike the Columbia House collectors edition ones, which have some outtakes and other things. And I have to wonder with this release fair like the other two seasons why can they not build chapters in where the commercial breaks are instead of having to hasty forward to earn support to the status I left off? Unbiased like Season 2 these are double sided DVD’s which scratch very easily and earn all kinds of noises in the DVD player, I would have liked 6 single sided DVD’s mighty better. And one last pickle is that when you set aside the DVD you absolutely have to recognize the Universal Studios introduction for about 10 seconds because you cannot skip it and access the menu.

There are two apt things I can say about this release the first being that it’s the A-Team, which is the best television prove of all time and this is probably my well-liked season. The second fine thing is that a coupon is enclosed for $5 off of Season 4 when it gets released. To have released this Season with this many errors and problems on the DVD’s is an insult to A-Team fans everywhere who have waited 20+ years to grasp this on DVD. Universal needs to hold all of them and voice working copies.
Update: I have unbiased gotten off the phone with Universal and they have said that they will replace the DVD for me and others who are having problems. You can call them at 972-293-5903 or email ushe.consumerrelations@worldmarkinc.com and establish A-Team Season 3 replacement in the subject line. I have added a star to my review since they’re customer service was profitable and returned my call promptly, but I have unruffled subtracted a star for each rush I have made to the store.
Back in my younger days, I probably would’ve filled an entire wall of my house with VHS tapes of my favourite childhood TV shows - Knight Rider, Airwolf and, of course, the A-Team. Thanks to the wonders of recent technology, I can now store the first four seasons in a miniature corner of my shelf.
Looking at the series through adult eyes, it’s absolutely fantastic to gaze honest how well this display has stood the test of time. When I was young, I enjoyed the totally implausible but well-mounted action scenes. As an older and wiser man, I devour it for the charisma of its four main stars. They all have a sense of fun, camraderie and joie de vivre about life in general that you fair don’t accumulate in shows nowadays.
It’s unbelievable to survey fair how common these shows mild are. Like everyone else, I sometimes wish they’d bring shows like this abet. Characters like Michael Knight, Stringfellow Hawke, and Hannibal Smith and co. provided some truly substantial role models that most of todays current TV shows sorely lack. I wouldn’t have grown up to be the man I am today without them.

This is one of the better WWII movies about an run from a prisoner-of-war camp. The narrative is taut and suspenseful. The odds against success are high but we wind up rooting for the man anyway. The guy is splendid, competent, resourceful and self-confident to the point of smugness. No, the guy isn’t played by Steve McQueen. There is no ball-bouncing in a prison cell. The man is Oberleutnant Franz von Werra, played by the German actor Hardy Kruger. Von Werra’s Messerschmitt is shot down over England on September 5, 1940. He is captured, interrogated and sent to a prisoner of war camp for officers. He turned out to be the only German captured on British soil who ever escaped and made it serve to Germany. Von Werra turns out to be a committed German officer, definite to speed, and with enough drive, ingenuity and luck to race from British camps three times. The first time sees him staggering for five days through mud and freezing rain to try to come a British port and a neutral ship. When he’s finally recaptured he’s half plain. The British send him to a powerful tougher camp in the north. This time he organizes a tunnel dig, figures out how to effect deceptive identity discs and how to convert rag-tag clothing into something passably civilian. On this wreck von Werra manages to talk himself onto a RAF despicable posing as a Dutch pilot. He’s captured while seated in the cockpit of a Hurricane trying to fetch it started. He planned to sail help to Germany. Now the British ship him off to a prisoner-of-war camp in Canada. They figure that’ll seize the starch out of his determination to return to Germany. They didn’t figure that von Werra would realize the significance of the United States being a neutral country and how stop the whisper taking him to the camp would be to the Saint Lawrence River border. Determined enough, in the dull icy of a Canadian winter (January, 1941), he escapes from the shriek, works his procedure through the snow and freezing drizzle to the mostly frozen river. He finds a boat and finally is picked up on the American side. Our movie ends here, with a expansive smile on von Werra’s frozen face and mumbled “thank yous” to the American border guard who found him.
Through all of this the escapes are carefully shown with a lot of dramatic tension. You can’t attend but wind up hoping von Werra’s persistence will pay off. Intellectual he’s an interested German pilot, a fighter ace, who is alive to to glean relieve to the battles takes a petite of the edge off, but composed…

The One That Got Away is filmed in gloomy and white. There are no sweeping, radiant shots of the countryside. We’re talking behind drop and winter in Britain and Canada. It’s icy and grey. If it’s not snowing, it’s raining. If it’s not raining, it’s drizzling. If it’s not drizzling it’s unexcited so cool you’ll want a fire going during the day. The acting is as wintry and competent as the movie.
And what about von Werra after he made it to America? The Canadians tried to gain him abet. The Americans wanted to send him serve. While everyone was arguing his plot, von Werra slipped across the U. S. border into Mexico, then made his device help to Germany by method of Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Spain. He arrived in Berlin on April 18, 1941. He was assigned to coast on the Eastern front, became an ace again, then was sent with his unit to the Netherlands for rest and refitting. On October 21, 1941, his plane malfunctioned during a training flight and went down in the sea. His body was never recovered. Franz von Werra’s luck had finally bustle out.
The Spot 2 DVD, available from AmazonUK, has no extras but the film transfer looks profitable.
Hardy Kruger gives an outstanding portrayal of a WWII German Aviator captured and obvious to elope by any means.
The intensity of Kruger’s pains to hurry makes this one of the best movies of its kind. Accurate up there with “The Big Hurry”

Compare Prices on Meet Me In St. Louis
Many critics assume MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS the single finest Hollywood musical of the 20th Century. Produced by Arthur Freed, directed by Vincent Minnelli, and sporting a flawless ensemble cast led by Judy Garland, the film was immediately hailed when it debuted in 1944–and time has only added luster to its name. Now, after several home market incarnations, it at last receives the edition it deserves on DVD.
Given its stature, it is ironic that both MGM and Judy Garland originally fought the project. Based on a collection of autobiographical stories by Sally Benson, the script is miniature more than a series of domestic adventures in the lives of the Smith family of 1903 St. Louis. But it became a thing of wonder: a careful balance of sly but gentle humor, a collection of memorable performances, an understated glean shorn of the usual movie-musical affectations, and at the center of it all Judy Garland, one of Hollywood’s most memorable talents.
The transfer is advantageous, capturing every nuance of the film’s meticulously and beautifully designed sets in chunky Technicolor; the sound elements, remastered in Dolby 5.1, are equally heavenly and Garland’s new vocal skills are undimmed by time. All in all, it seems noble to say that not even the unusual 1944 theatrical release could surpass the quality of report and sound offered here.

Although the bonus package would have better without the dreadful pilot for a failed television series based on the film, by and grand it offers a good collection. Previously available on VHS, the Roddy McDowell-narrated “making of” documentary is worth revisiting, as is the TCM-produced “Becoming Attractions.” While a number of later documentaries surpass it, “Hollywood: The Dream Factory” has never before been widely available and offers an inside examine of the renowned 1972 MGM auction. The Martins’ performance of “Skip to My Lou” a reconstruction of “Boys and Girls Like You and Me,” and a collection of Vincent Minnelli movie trailers round out the offerings, all of them moving.
The important audio commentary is led by film historian and Garland scholar John Fricke. I regret to say that I have several issues with Fricke, who seems to rely excessively on Vincent Minnelli’s autobiography I REMEMBER IT WELL and who has a tendency to perpetuate obvious myths about the film–chief among them the conception that Garland did “The Trolley Song” in a single consume. (Garland prerecorded the song, the overall sequence involves at least seven modern camera set-ups, and although Garland performs most of the solo in a single prefer there is a change in camera set-up toward the demolish of her vocal.) Even so, Fricke offers grand insight into the cast, crew, and production of MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, and the commentary is laced with remarks (some of them archival) by the likes of Margaret O’Brien, Hugh Martin, and Irving Brecher; in spite of my occasional misgivings, it really is everything one could wish an audio commentary to be.
These aside, the bonus package contains one indispensable and original prize: the short film “Bubbles” and a indispensable audio commentary led by Hollywood and Garland historian John Fricke. Long conception lost, “Bubbles” is one of several shorts made in the early 1930s that include The Gumm Sisters, the youngest of whom would become better known as Judy Garland–a moral rarity indeed.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Meet Me In St. Louis! Click Here
Given the beauty of the transfer and the generally exceptional bonus package, it is difficult to imagine a better edition of this uniquely American classic. I strongly recommend it.
GFT, Amazon Reviewer
Judy Garland gives one of her finest performances in the palatable period musical MEET ME IN ST LOUIS, calm one of the best-loved movies of all time.
Esther Smith (Garland) is in like with “The Boy Next Door”, and when she discovers that the Worlds Pleasing is coming to her town, everyone in St Louis is thrilled.
Her enchantment only grows when she discovers the feeling of adore is mutual, but when her father announces that the family is curious to Fresh York, the romance could be finished before it even began…
Margaret O’Brien steals every scene she’s in as Esther’s diminutive sister Tootie, while the supporting cast, led by Lucille Bremer, Mary Astor and Leon Ames is noble.
Initially more favorite at the box-office than THE WIZARD OF OZ, the evergreen MEET ME IN ST LOUIS continues to be loved by generations of movie-lovers.
